The Importance of Keeping Fit

Queenie checks out the Gym on Venice BeachYou have to keep fit — in all worlds. My hectic life means I don’t have much time to look after myself properly so yesterday I determined to put in a gym session at least 3 times a week.

Accordingly I popped down to Venice Beach and checked out the lovely little gym right on the beach.

Lots of machines here to work out on. A walker (I did a good warm-up on the walker for 15 minutes) and then managed a few chin-ups. Or is that ‘chins-up? In any case, I reached 10 and had to have a good rest. (just like RL).

I had a little bit of fun with the punching bag as well. I’ve never seen a punching bag before and I got stuck right into it, imagining to myself that it was really the awful person who drove a plane into the roof of my church.

Queenie pumps ironIt would have been a lot more pleasant here at the gym with the gorgeous view etc if it weren’t for the fact that I suddenly woke up and realised why there were all these men hanging around.

It’s a mens’ gym! No uni-sex resources and facilities here :) (And maybe my collar disconcerted the other enthusiastic exercisers).

So, to put everyone, including myself, at ease .. I bought some weights ($100) and took them home to use in privacy. This way, only my cats showed any curiosity when I started heaving and chuffing and puffing. You can take that image up larger with a click to check out the curious cats.

Now I’m ready to face just about anything!

Netroots Nation

I ran across this blog called Netroots Nation while I was looking for something else entirely.

What is it?

Netroots Nation amplifies progressive voices by providing an online and in-person campus for exchanging ideas and learning how to be more effective in using technology to influence the public debate. Within that campus, we strengthen community, inspire action and serve as an incubator for progressive ideas that challenge the status quo and ultimately affect change in the public sphere.

which means, um, what it says.

In any case, there are some great little videos streaming about the place and it’s obvious that it’s a pretty popular place - I couldn’t get in the first few times I tried.

Bye Bye Bibi

Pastor Q bids Bye Bye to Bib's BazaarWith a heavy heart I bid farewell to Bibi’s Bazaar. I loved this place.

But I’ve been so flat out with weddings, especially since my guest appearance on Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe, that there’s been scarcely anytime at all to look after the place. The tiers are $32 a month as well.

When you don’t spend your time setting up dance events, ensuring tenants are happy, hosting games & hunts, and consistently advertising through every medium possible, any mall will run down, Even beautiful Bibi’s needs constant care.

So, Bibi’s Bazaar is now under the ownership of Xochitl Ninetails. May she have all the wind at her back for this.
