Chichen Itza

Chichen Iza in Second LifeThis morning I teleported over to experience Chichen Iza.

The Mayans have always fascinated me and one day I will get over to Mexico myself and wander round the ancient city. In the meantime I can admire the superb build in SL.

When you go over yourself (and you must) turn on your sound to get the exciting music which was especially composed to heighten your immersion and enhance your experience. There’s also a highly detailed environmental soundscape so, as you move through each area, the music and sound effects change with the environment around you.

I did hear a kookaburra though. While they aren’t native to Mexico, I’m not complaining, the blasted birds turn up everywhere, even on the soundtrack of Tarzan movies. I will forgive them.

The Sacred Cenote, a water-filled, limestone sinkhole, is holy to the Rain God Chaac. In RL the great city of Chichen Itza was built around a cluster of these natural wells. (I hopped down into the depths to look at the old pottery shards and debris, the remains of ancient offerings to Chaac)

Mexican food at Chichen IzaThere’s a little marketplace on the beach and, while I admired the food, decided to forgo the tamales and tortillas in favour of a couple of iguanas to live on my own island with me. (Hope my dogs don’t harass them)

I put some photos up at Flick’r if you would care to see some of the sights.
